Biography
Frazette Gibson is a respected community leader, educator, and public servant with more than 25 years of service in the Bahamas’ civil service, including 20 years in education. Born in the settlement of Hunters, Grand Bahama, she is the daughter of the late Bernadette McIntosh and Frazar Bullard.
Mrs. Gibson earned her bachelor’s degree in history and geography from the University of The Bahamas, where she was elected president of the College of The Bahamas Union of Students (COBUS) for four consecutive years, the longest-serving president in the northern campus’s history. Her early career in the Office of the Prime Minister gave her a first-hand understanding of the challenges faced by Bahamian families, inspiring her lifelong dedication to service. She rose through the ranks in the Ministry of Education, serving as teacher and Vice Principal, while championing programs to support youth development and healthy choices.
Her commitment to community building is evident in the many initiatives she has led. She founded the SOUTHFEST cultural event in 1999 to foster community pride and support local projects, as well as the IMPACT program to guide at-risk teens toward positive life choices. She also launched the Lend a Hand Junior Volunteer Program to promote youth volunteerism, with student volunteers serving in elder care facilities and the Rand Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Gibson has been elected twice to local government for the Central Grand Bahama constituency, spearheading major projects including the development of community parks, solar light bulb distribution, backyard farming kits, hurricane preparedness training, and the island’s first Emergency Operating Centre. She has also championed improved public access to recreational spaces, including Caravel Beach.
Her leadership extends beyond national borders as Chairperson of the Women in Local Government Network for all Commonwealth countries and as an elected board member of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum.
She is married to Dino Gibson, and together they have four children and one grandson. Guided by her faith and her deep connection to her community, Mrs. Gibson is committed to advancing opportunities, strengthening communities, and delivering results for Central Grand Bahama.
