Biography

Senator Michela Barnett-Ellis is a respected attorney and dedicated public servant with a proven record of leadership in both the legal profession and national governance. Admitted to the Bar of England and Wales and the Bahamas Bar in 2007, she has built a distinguished legal career, rising to Partner in the Litigation Department of GrahamThompson. Her practice has spanned civil litigation, contract law, public law, personal injury, employment law, and statutory interpretation.

From 2017 to 2021, Senator Barnett-Ellis served as a Board Member of the National Insurance Board, chairing both the Building and Contracts Committee and the Operations Committee. She has also served as Honorary Secretary of the Bahamas Bar Association and currently holds the role of Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee.

Her leadership and service have been recognized internationally, earning her a place on the Citywealth IFC Power Women Top 200 list for three consecutive years.

Beyond her professional work, Senator Barnett-Ellis is deeply committed to community service. She is an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, a volunteer with the Bahamas AIDS Foundation for more than a decade, and a passionate participant in the Volunteer Reading Project, inspiring young students through literacy.

As an FNM Senator, she is committed to advancing a forward-thinking vision for the Bahamas, one that champions human rights, strengthens public institutions, and ensures opportunity for every Bahamian.
