Biography
Elsworth N. Johnson’s journey is one profoundly shaped by his heritage and steadfast commitment to public service. Born and raised in Douds, New Bight, Cat Island, he carries with him the values and traditions of his Bahamian roots. His career has been a testament to his commitment to the growth and development of The Bahamas.
In May 2017, Elsworth was elected to the House of Assembly, marking the beginning of his service in The Bahamas’ Cabinet. Initially appointed as Minister of State for Legal Affairs in the Office of the Attorney General, he served diligently in this capacity until June 30, 2019. On July 1, 2019, his responsibilities expanded as he stepped into the role of Minister of Financial Services, Trade and Industry, and Immigration. His leadership in these roles have been pivotal in shaping policies and advancing national interests.
Education has always been a cornerstone of Elsworth’s life. A 1995 graduate of the College of The Bahamas, he earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Law and Criminal Justice before continuing his studies at the University of the West Indies. There, he achieved his Bachelor of Laws Degree with Honors in 2001. His thirst for knowledge and excellence led him to pursue further qualifications, earning his Legal Education Certificate from the Eugene Dupuch Law School in 2003 and a master’s degree in Corporate and Commercial Law in 2010.
Elsworth’s dedication extends beyond his governmental roles. As a past President of The Bahamas Bar Association, he has made significant contributions to the legal profession. He is the Principal Partner at Johnson & Associates. His global outlook is reflected in his memberships with the International Bar Association and Amnesty International. He is an active member of the Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise.
A man of faith, Elsworth is a member of St. Ambrose Anglican Church, where he finds community and spiritual grounding. His personal life is filled with love and joy, shared with his wife, Cathy-Ann Cromarty-Johnson, and their three daughters, Kristen, Meghan, and Arianna. w
