Biography

J. Leo Ferguson is a veteran law enforcement leader and dedicated public servant with more than two decades of experience protecting Bahamian communities and strengthening national security.

He has served as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in the Royal Bahamas Police Force and as the Officer in Charge of the Great Inagua Division. Throughout his distinguished career, Ferguson has held key leadership roles responsible for operational planning, public safety strategy, crisis response, and the mentoring and development of junior officers. His work has placed him on the frontlines of protecting communities while building strong relationships between law enforcement and the public.

Ferguson began his journey of service through the Royal Bahamas Police Cadet Programme, where he developed the discipline and leadership principles that would guide his career. Over the years, he has earned multiple commendations for exemplary service, including the Commissioner of Police Commendation of Merit and the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal awarded by the Governor General of The Bahamas.

In addition to his law enforcement career, Ferguson has worked in private sector operations and management, gaining experience in security services, logistics, and organizational leadership. His professional training includes specialized certifications in SWAT operations, investigative techniques, crisis management, maritime navigation, and public administration, as well as ongoing studies in Electrical Power at the University of The Bahamas.

A committed community advocate, Ferguson has long been involved in civic and faith-based leadership. He has served as President and Vice President of the Wemyss Bight Homecoming Committee and continues to mentor young people and support community initiatives across the Family Islands.

The son of former Free National Movement Senator and Chairman Johnlee Ferguson, Leo was raised with a deep appreciation for public service and national development. His decision to enter politics reflects a lifelong commitment to community leadership and a belief that the people of the Family Islands deserve stronger representation and greater opportunity.

As the Free National Movement candidate for MICAL, Ferguson is focused on advancing practical solutions that strengthen community safety, improve infrastructure and public services, and expand economic opportunity throughout the constituency.

His vision is rooted in service, accountability, and empowering communities to thrive.
