Biography
Born September 10, 1976 in Nassau in The Commonwealth of The Bahamas. Dr. Hon. Shanendon Eugene Cartwright serves in the legislative branch as a Member of Parliament for the St.Barnabas Constituency in the Honourable House of Assembly in The Commonwealth of the Bahamas. He formerly served as the Executive Chairman of the Bahamas Public Parks and Public Beaches Authority and a Justice of the Peace covering all 700 islands and cays in his archipelagic nation. Re-elected as a member of Parliament on September 16th, 2021 he has implemented an expansive community driven agenda anchored by transformative programs with a “peoples first” focus. This effort has led to many milestones in St. Barnabas in Youth and Student Development, Social services assistance and family enrichment projects, Senior Citizens programs, environmental and infrastructural improvements, local business community partnerships and the centre piece the establishment of the historic St. Barnabas Community Center.
Mr. Cartwrights tenure and stewardship as the Executive Chairman of The Bahamas Public Parks and Public Beaches Authority was equally transformative. Under his leadership and administration, the “Authority” was at the forefront of executing major environmental and public infrastructure improvements inclusive of all public parks and public beaches in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
He has spent over 20 years as a Sales, Hospitality, Marketing and Corporate Development Executive with management tenures with global hospitality pioneers Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide and Kerzner International. Prior to being elected to the Honourable House of Assembly on May 10th, 2017 he served as a Senior Executive with responsibility for Corporate Development and Marketing for Danbrad Limited a leading multi-million-dollar international franchisee holding company in The Commonwealth of The Bahamas. He is the Founder and Director of Vision 21- a youth empowerment and community development program. The Honourable Shanendon Cartwright holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree in English Language & Literature with a minor History and an Honorary Doctorate of Laws Degree from Franklin Pierce University Rindge, New Hampshire U.S.A where he holds the distinction as the first person of colour to
serve as Chairman of Franklin Pierce University’s Judicial Board and received the prestigious Presidents Award for Leadership and Contribution from former Franklin Pierce University President George Hagerty .He was named a New England Collegiate Conference Academic Scholar-Athlete for Men’s- Basketball and later served as a Franklin Pierce University’s Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach. He continues to be a holder of multiple basketball records at Franklin Pierce University. He is a Past-Chairman of the National Membership Committee for the Free National Movement and currently serves as one of its National Trustees. He is a member of The Bahamas National Trust, The Bahamas Historical Society, the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Scotland and a life member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated the first African American Greek lettered collegiate fraternity founded in 1906 at Cornell University in Ithaca New York. The Honourable Shanendon Cartwright is an active member of St. Pauls, The Apostle Holy Roman Catholic Church. He has three daughters Sharyn, Shanead, Destine and one son Shanendon. His life’s mantra “Live for something bigger than yourself”.
