Biography
Michael Augustine Foulkes, son of Sir Arthur A. Foulkes and Naomi Foulkes (nee Higgs), received his early education at St. Thomas More Catholic Primary School, A. F. Adderley Senior High School, S. C. McPherson Junior High School and graduated from Government High School, Yellow Elder. Michael graduated from the Bahamas Hotel Training College (BHTC) with a Diploma (Associates of Arts). Michael earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Florida International University (F.I.U.) in Hospitality Management, where he served as Student Government Senator and Vice President of Caribbean Student Association. At Nova Law School, he earned his Juris Doctorate (J.D.), served as President, and joined the Black Law Students Association. At Eugene Dupuch Law School, he earned his Certificate of Legal Education, (C.L.E.), and served as Conversion-Students Representative. Michael was called to the Bahamas Bar in 2000, and is currently the Managing Partner of Foulkes & Associates.
An avid supporter of the FNM, he began his political career as a member of the Torchbearers Youth Association. He has also served as the National Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General and Campaign Manager.
Nationally, Michael has served as Co-Chairman of the National Insurance Board Appeals Tribunal, 2007 to 2012. Member of the Bahamas Licensing Authority, 2007 to 2012 and Member of the Bahamas Mortgage Corporation Board, 2001 to 2002.
Michael Foulkes was elected Member of Parliament for the Golden Gates Constituency in 2017 and appointed Government Deputy Whip, House of Assembly. He also served as the Chairman of the Education Loan Authority and Executive Chairman of the Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation (BAIC) in 2018. In 2019, Michael was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development. In 2020 he served as Chairman of the House of Assembly’s Select Committee on Natural Resources.
A man of faith, Michael is a member of St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, where he served as the Secretary and the Executive of the Church Men’s Association.
Michael Foulkes is the father of two children Michael and Michelle and eight grandchildren.
